Irvine Mayor Invites Residents to Discover Orchard Hills
Trek through the avocado orchards along with the Mayor…
Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang is inviting residents to join him on a short hike to explore the beauty of the Open Space Preserve on Saturday, June 27 at 8:30 a.m. Participants will travel through the Orchard Hills multi-use, double loop trail, which is a three-mile hike meandering through avocado orchards and boasting fantastic views of Irvine and the Pacific Ocean.
One of the first to open in Irvine's Northern Open Space Preserve, the trail is part of nearly 50,000 acres of land designated as permanent open space. The outer loop is marked by several steep climbs, but the hike is done at a moderate pace, and on clear days hikers are rewarded with glimpses of Catalina Island, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and even the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles.
The inner loop is perfect for beginners with its easy, one-mile route with far less elevation gain than the outer loop. The trail will eventually connect to a larger protected open space preserve including Loma Ridge, Limestone Canyon and Agua Chinon Canyon.
The hike is open to anyone age 10 and up. Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear sturdy shoes. For more information or to register, visit http://www.irvineranchwildlands.org/activities/index.asp. *Note: This program is very popular. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Check this website periodically, as this activity may be offered again in the near future.
